Maui offers bike rental and scooter rental options in some areas, especially in more touristy regions like Lahaina and Kihei. These can be a fun and eco-friendly way to explore local areas and beachside paths. Public bus service is also available if you are looking for something affordable, though the connectivity will be restricted to major routes, and not to the offbeat destinations.

The Complete 7 Day Maui Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive in Maui and relax

Once you’ve arrived in Maui, settle into your hotel or resort. Explore the nearby areas around your resort. All the best areas to stay in Maui have beaches around them, so do take a leisurely stroll along the beach. Enjoy the beautiful sunset by the beach, to kick-start your exciting 7 day Maui itinerary.

Day 2: Drive down the Road to Hana

Begin your day by take a picturesque trip along Maui’s northeastern shore known as “The Road to Hana“. This is considered to be one of the most scenic drives in Maui, so take your time to stop at various points of interest, including waterfalls, bamboo forests, and stunning vistas.

Next, head to the Garden of Eden Arboretum and Botanical Garden, where you will discover a variety of plant species, beautiful scenery, and even peacocks. Plan to set aside an hour to visit the garden. Later on, visit the Wai’anapanapa State Park, known for its black sand beach, sea caves, and lava tube. You can easily end up spending 3 to 4 hours here, so plan accordingly. If you have the time, your final stop for the day would be at the breathtaking Seven Sacred Pools in the Haleakala National Park, before return to your hotel.

Day 3: Explore West Maui

Today, you will spend the day exploring the West Maui region as you continue the 7 day Maui itinerary. Start your day by visiting the historical town of Lahaina, and browse through art galleries and shops on Front Street. Drive down to Nakalele Blowhole and admire the powerful water spouts. This is a 30 minute drive from Lahaina, so you can get back to the Lahaina area in about 1.5 hours.

Your next stop is Kaanapali Beach, one of the best beaches for swimming in Maui. You should plan to spend the rest of the day here as the water is so gorgeous. Simply relax at the beach, or indulge in your favorite water-sport such as snorkeling in Black Rock, paddle boarding or scuba diving. Wrap up your day by having dinner at one of the many world-class restaurants in Ka’anapali.

Day 4: Visit Haleakala National Park

One of the highlights of this 7 day Maui itinerary is a visit to the Haleakala National Park. You will need to wake up really early today since the highlight is to witness the splendid sunrise from the summit of Haleakala volcano. The view of the sunset is spectacular too , however, we recommend you do your best to get the park and experience the sunrise. After sunrise, explore Haleakala National Park by hiking one of the trails or taking a bike ride down the mountain or visiting the Visitor Center.

Once you are done exploring the national park, head to Ali’i Kula Lavender Farm. This is a beautiful farm filled with serene views of lavender fields and gardens. Next, head to the charming town of Makawao in the Upcountry Maui region, that’s known for its art galleries and boutiques. This is your last stop for the day, so spend as much time as needed exploring the town, before heading back.

Day 5: Discover Iao Valley and Central Maui

Today, you will visit and discover the picturesque Iao Valley State Park, home to the famed Iao Needle and tall, emerald-green peaks. Stop by at the visitor center to learn about Hawaiian history and culture, take a short stroll to the vista, and absorb the gorgeous surroundings.

Next, head to the Maui Tropical Plantation, and take a tram excursion to discover more about the varied flora of the island. Learn about the history of Maui’s sugar plantations later in the day by exploring the Maui Arts & Cultural Center or going to the Alexander & Baldwin Sugar Museum. Do plan to stop by at either Kahului or Wailuku for dinner, or simply return back to your hotel.

Day 6: Explore Maui’s South Shore

As you head towards the close of your vacation through this 7 day Maui itinerary, spend the day exploring the beautiful beaches of South Maui. Choose from either Wailea Beach or Makena Beach (also known as “Big Beach”) to spend your time at. If you are looking to snorkel, we recommend you visit the Makena Beach.

If you are in to marine life, consider visiting the Maui Ocean Center, a 30 minute drive from Makena Beach. End the day with dinner at a restaurant in Kihei or Wailea, and a stroll along the beach.

Day 7: Relaxation and farewell
